Science exhibition
We have been working away on some very exciting Science work over the last few weeks, and this all came together last Monday when the school put on a Science exhibition in the school hall. We tracked the weather and kept track of a hawthorn tree throughout the month of March as part of the Signs of Spring element of the project. As we saw last week, a pilot came to visit us to tell us all about what is involved in flying an airplane. Finally we did two experiments, one to identify different sounds and the other to see which type of bridge could hold the most weight. At the exhibition, we demonstrated these two experiments and our visitors took part too. Everyone agreed that the exhibition was a great success and hopefully we get to do more events like this in the school. It was all part of the Discover Primary Science award so we look forward to getting our certificate soon!

On Friday we made salt dough butterflies and painted them in beautiful colours and patterns. Here are some of the results:

If you'd like to try making your own salt dough at home, mix one cup of flour with half a cup of salt and some water until the dough is dry and not too sticky, cut out a shape, and put it in the microwave for 3 minutes. Hey presto!

A pilot comes to visit!
There was great excitement in the classroom this week when we had a visit from a pilot named Fiona, who flies for Aer Lingus. She told us all about what it was like to work as a pilot, how to fly an airplane and lots of other interesting things that we didn't know about working on airplane. She said steering an airplane was a bit like dancing, so Mr Kennedy reckoned there were a few people who would make good pilots in our class! She also said that if you work hard in school you could become a pilot, so make to sure to keep up the good work in school everyone.

A big thanks to Fiona for giving up her time to come in and see us.
We also made our very own airplanes in the classroom this week. Have fun making them fly at home!
